This week you are going to read about Fundamental Principle 3 of Workplace integration - Becoming Good at Working
with Difference.
Read pages 44 - 50 from the Desk Reference and answer the following questions on the Discussion Board:
1. In the case study about Sam, on page 45, you learn about different cultural orientations to time. In some cultures, human
relations come before time and deadlines. Reflect on cultural orientation in your home culture. Is it the same or different from
Canadian?
2. Why is cultural intelligence important? What does it mean to be culture blind? Reflect on the following words:
"Canadian workplace norms and those in other cultures are 95 percent the same but differ in all the important things"
3. What are the Four Career musts?
4. What do you need to do to identify your workplace culture?
5. Think about Gesture, Touch, and Space. Comment on them in light of your home culture and compare them with your
observations of Canadian culture. Do people speak with their hands? Do men and women touch outside of marriage? What is
ones' personal space?
